Lesson 21: Just For Fun!
The most popular Christmas song in English is called "White Christmas". In this song "white" refers
to the color of snow. The singer is far from home during the holiday season and is remembering what it was like for him in the past.
The song was made famous by a singer named Bing Crosby but this is a version that I like much better, but a group called The Drifters. I really enjoy
listening to it, even when it's not the Christmas season! I hope you enjoy it too. The text of the song is below.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
("glisten" = "to shine")
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
(a "sleigh" is like a car that carries Santa claus)
And I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way...
