A Story for Learners of English


Here's a short, funny story for learning vocabulary. As a student of English, you should read this story at least three times. Difficult words are explained on the right side of the page.

A man who was (1) hard of hearing (2) realized that he needed (3) to purchase (4) a hearing aid, but he (5) was unwilling to spend much money. "How much do they (6) run?", he asked a shopkeeper. "That depends", said the salesperson. "They can run anywhere from $2 to $2000." The man said, "Let's see the $2 (7) model". The (8) clerk put (9) the device around the man's neck.
