A Story for Learners of English
Here's a short, funny story for learning vocabulary. As a student of English, you should read
this story at least three times. Difficult words are explained on the right side of the page.
A man who was (1) hard of hearing (2) realized that he needed (3) to purchase

he (5) was unwilling to spend much money. "How much do they (6) run?", he asked a shopkeeper.
"That depends", said the salesperson. "They can run anywhere from $2 to $2000." The man

just (10) stick this button in your ear and put this little (11) string down into your (12) pocket",
he (13) instructed. "How does it (14) work?", the man asked. "For $2, it doesn't (15) actually work,
