A Great Site for Learning English
www.teacherjoe.us
Recently I have discovered a wonderful site to help you learn English.
The site is one of the most popular websites in the world, but most
students of English don't seem to know it. It is called "You Tube".
"Tube" is a slang word meaning "television". You, or anyone else, can
put your own videos on You Tube, some of which are serious, some of
which are funny, and some of which are useful. So, how can you use
You Tube to help you? Teacher Joe has some ideas for you...
The simplest way to learn from You Tube is to do a search for something
like "Learn English" or "English Pronunciation". Then you can choose
any video that looks good. If you're not sure you want to watch a video,
you can read comments that other people have written. (Comments are below
each video.) In this way, you'll even find some of Teacher Joe's videos!
Another way to use You Tube is to search for a topic you are interested
in. If you like poetry, for example, you can search on "poetry" or "poems"
or even on "Shakespeare, sonnets". If you like sports, you can search
for "football" or whatever sport you like. Search is a very useful
function so use it well.
You can also click on "Channels", which will allow you to choose from
videos made by different people or groups. In the "Channels" section
you have a choice of looking at the most recent videos or the videos
from the past month or from anytime in the past.
One of the best things about You Tube is that you, too, can join! It's
free and easy to set up an account. Once you have an account, you
can then "subscribe" to one person's videos (such as Teacher Joe's!)
then you will know whenever that person puts new videos on You
Tube.
Good luck. You Tube is a great resource. I'm sure you will learn a lot
if you use it often.
