Learn English from Famous People!
www.teacherjoe.us
Wouldn't you like to learn English from famous writers, world leaders, successful businesspeople, and brilliant scientists? Believe
it or not, you have that opportunity every day of the week! Here is former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's lesson for you:
"One only gets to the top rung of the ladder by steadily climbing up one at a time." She had first-hand experience in "reaching the
top", so you should follow your advice, shouldn't you? Or, here is some advice from Albert Einstein: "If A equals success, then the
formula is A equals X plus Y plus Z, with X being work, Y play, and Z keeping your mouth shut." What do you think of this advice? Do
you follow this suggestion? Can you do the third part of his suggestion?
You can learn from these kind of famous quotations (a "quotation" is any sentences that stand inside "quotation marks"!) in three very
important ways. First, you can learn some very good English sentences and maybe some new English vocabulary. Second, you can use these
quotes as conversation starters with your friends, colleagues or classmates. Simply tell somebody about an interesting quote you heard
recently, repeat the quote, then ask whether your conversation partner agrees or disagrees. Simple, isn't it?
So, where do can find interesting quotes? First, you can go to Teacher Joe's Words of Wisdom page
which not only has some fascinating (very interesting) quotes, but also includes some discussion questions. If you want more famous quotes,
you can go to one of many sites on the internet. One very good site is www.brainyquote.com, where you can
find carefully selected
quotes organized by topic or by the name of the person who spoke the quote. Another good site is
www.quotationspage.com which
includes Quotes of the Day and a search function.
Good luck to you!
